- Animal Clinics/Tests
Animal Clinics are designed to increase awareness and skill levels in the various animal forms/styles of Traditional Gongfu. They are also great for developing added skills and enjoying a personal challenge. Clinics are divided
into four separate levels where students learn a very specific animal form along with the traditional names for the movements. History of the animal style. Style specific training methods as well as attacking and defensive patterns associated with the animal style. The fifth level is an actual test on all of the above information. It is a pass/fail event. Animal clinics are held every other month. The current animal styles offered at these clinics are:
Monkey, Dragon, Leopard, Snake, Eagle, Tiger, Mantis, and Crane.
- Weapons clinics
Weapons are a part of life and becoming familiar with them helps to remove their stereotypes. We need to see them as tools instead of instruments of destruction.
Our clinics are designed to expose students to weapons of all types and provide background on their uses. We teach techniques that vary in difficulty so those who have previous experience will gain a deeper understanding of the weapon’s purpose, history and application.
- Retreats
“The school that plays together, stays together.”
Each year during the Summer and Fall we like to take a trip to nature, where we can learn, play and spend time getting to know each other outside the studio. It is a unique opportunity to get to know your instructors as well. There are a variety of activities for everyone to participate in and if you have the energy you can try them all. Or you can relax and enjoy the break from your busy lifestyle. Look for details on the next retreat in our monthly newsletter or ask your instructor.
- Student Games
Every year we gather together in the spirit of fun to test each other and praise one another all in the spirit of the martial arts.
The Annual Student Games is an open event for Student, Friends, and Family alike. There are many different types of events from: Obstacle Courses, Sanda, Grappling, Feats of Strength, Weapons Events, Traditional and Contemporary Forms, as well as other events. We treat the Student Games as an Open House were all are welcome. There is always a lot of food and no shortage of fun. Demonstrations and Group Participation activities are also done at the Student Games. Well see you there!
- Monk Wise Open
There are many types of martial arts tournaments within our communities. At the Monk Wise Open tournament
we explain the different rules, enjoy some friendly competition, meet fellow students, and encourage one another.
Traditional and Modern Forms (both empty hands and weapons), Sanda, Weapons Sparring, and demonstrations are conducted. Full approved sparring gear is required. Feedback will be given to all involved so that individuals will understand what they did right as well as areas to improve.
